Day of the Sacrifice of Italian Labor in the World

Day of the Sacrifice of Italian Labor in the World

Established on Dec. 1, 2001, to value and recognize the work and sacrifice of the many compatriots who emigrated abroad, Aug. 8 is remembered as the “Day of the Sacrifice of Italian Labor in the World”.

This commemoration falls on the anniversary of the 1956 Marcinelle mining tragedy in Belgium, where 262 miners, including 136 Italians, lost their lives in the Bois du Cazier mine.

Published here (in italian) is the commemoration message of the Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the Marcinelle mining tragedy.
