Filipino Community in Italy

The Filipino community in Italy, numbering approximately 165,000 according to data from the Ministry of the Interior, is one of the largest foreign communities in the country and one of the first to have settled in Italy since the early 1970s.

The initial Filipino immigration to Italy was encouraged by specific bilateral agreements between the two countries, aimed at regulating the entry of domestic workers and family helpers. By the late 1980s, the presence of Filipinos began to stabilize, marking the start of a process of greater integration.

Today, the Filipino community ranks sixth in terms of population size among non-EU foreign communities in Italy.

Geographically, the Filipino community is predominantly concentrated in the northern regions of Italy, particularly in Lombardy, which hosts more than one-third of the Filipino population (34.8%). The second-largest concentration is in Lazio, with 27.4% of Filipinos residing there, followed by Emilia-Romagna, home to 8.6% of the community.
