To support the promotion of the Italian language and culture abroad, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) offers to foreign universities the opportunity to apply for contributions for the creation and operation of Italian language chairs.
CONTRIBUTIONS
The contributions are intended to partially cover the salaries of teachers directly hired by universities under local law contracts. The term “Italian language chairs” refers to university chairs and/or courses where the Italian language is one of the languages taught according to the regulations of the institution, even if the chair or course has a different name.
Requests from universities that intend to use the contributions for purposes other than the salary of teachers hired under local law contracts (such as the purchase of books, teaching materials or promotional materials, the organization of conferences, seminars, or other events, the remuneration of speakers and conference guests, or travel expenses for teachers attending conferences and external meetings) cannot be considered.
As a general rule, requests from universities where MAECI-assigned language instructors are already in service will not be considered.
The courses must consist of teaching the Italian language, must be held in Italian, and must take place at the requesting university and not in Italy.
Timelines for the Use of Granted Contributions
The granted contributions for supporting the Italian language chairs must be used by the end of the relevant academic year (2025/2026).
