Italian language and culture

In the Philippine educational system, Italian is not a curricular subject in public and/or private schools at the primary and secondary levels. However, there are opportunities to learn Italian in some universities and cultural organizations.

Three Italian language certification bodies are active in the Philippines:

  • The University for Foreigners of Siena (CILS) and the University for Foreigners of Perugia (CELI), in partnership with the Philippine-Italian Association (PIA);
  • The Dante Alighieri Society (PLIDA).

The Italian language is mainly taught in two Philippine universities: the University of the Philippines Diliman and Ateneo De Manila University. Italian is also taught to students of European Studies and Foreign Languages at De La Salle University Manila and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. At the University of the City of Marikina (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina-PLMar), fourth-year students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration have the opportunity to study Italian as a foreign language for one semester, thanks to the linguistic expertise of the science teacher.
