COVID-19 Emergency. Visas


For C-tourism visas, we can only accept applications ex DPCM and those of foreign family members of Italian and EU citizens or long-term foreign residents. These family members are the following: spouse/part of a civil union, direct descendants and those of the spouse/united partner, direct ascendants and those of the spouse/united partner.

Therefore, we CANNOT accept applications for cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, etc.


Extension of Permessi di Soggiorno (Residence Permits) to July 31, 2021

We inform the users that the Permessi di Soggiorno (Residence Permits) expired after January 31, 2020 have been extended until July 31, 2021, (ex.D.L. April 30, 2021 N.56.

Please also note that the validity of the Nulla Osta S.U.I has been extended until July 31, 2021.

Currently, on the basis of the Schengen guidelines, applications are accepted for the following types of visa:

1. Type “C “short-term visas (for less than 90 days stay), only for the following types of travelers:

  • Tourism – only for 1) couples as stated below; 2) close family members of Italian/EU/Schengen citizens, or of foreigners with long term Italian residence permit.
  • Medical Treatment
  • Sport events
  • Work
  • Religious reasons
  • Research
  • Study (including traineeships)
  • Transit
  • Transport workers

2. Type “D” Long-term Visas / National Visas - all types:

  • Adoption
  • Medical Treatment
  • Diplomatic
  • Work
  • Mission
  • Family reunion
  • Religious reasonsRe-entry
  • Research
  • Study

The Prime Ministerial Decree of September 7, 2020 allowed the entry into the national territory also for the following reasons:
1) To reach the domicile/habitation/residence of an EU/Schengen citizen and a long-term resident foreigner, even if not cohabiting, with whom there is a proven and stable romantic relationship;
2) Participation in international sporting events and trade fairs, subject to authorization by the Ministry of Health and with the obligation to present to the carrier at the time of boarding, and to whoever is responsible for carrying out the controls, the attestation of having undergone, in the 72 hours prior to entry into the national territory, a molecular or antigenic test, carried out by means of swab test and negative result.

Foreigners who intend to reach their partners in Italy as per point 1, can apply for a visa at the Embassy in Taguig City, presenting appropriate documentation proving the stable romantic relationship.
